ABOUT
Louis-Nicolas Imbeau, “Vlooper,” is a deeply respected Montréal-based music producer, beatmaker, composer, sound designer and mixing engineer known for his jazz and soul infused beats, chopped vinyl textures, and warm, analog-sounding production. He’s long considered one of the producers who helped define the modern Québec rap sound — both gritty and melodic, with a distinctly local flavour. His work bridges local slang and culture with hip-hop’s global sound, making him both authentic to Québec’s underground scene and but also admired internationally among hip-hop heads who follow beat culture.
Often referred to as a “producer’s producer,” Vlooper is best known for hip hop group, Alaclair Ensemble, Québec’s most important and influential rap collectives. His beats were central to their playful, genre-blending style, earning him over 50 million streams and views on various digital platforms, and nominations for Producer of the Year at the ADISQ Awards in 2017 and 2019 for "Les frères cueilleurs" and "Le sens des paroles," respectively. He has also won the ADISQ's Rap Album of the Year award four times (2015, 2017, 2019, 2020).
Vlooper grew up in a musical family and was immersed in rhythm and melody from a young age. Classically trained as a pianist, he developed a deep understanding of harmony and composition long before stepping into the world of hip-hop. That dual foundation — the discipline of classical music and the freedom of hip-hop — has shaped the distinctive voice that defines his work today. His beats often carry the warmth of live instrumentation, the richness of jazz and soul samples, and the sharp edge of boom bap rhythms. His ear for layering soundscapes comes directly from his early years at the piano, where he learned to balance technical precision with emotional depth.
Currently, Vlooper is working as a composer in the commercial space with ad agencies and production houses across the globe. He’s also scoring a children’s anime tv series set to launch later in 2025 and in the research phase on his first feature film.
